There’s a fun event happening on Santa Monica Beach on Saturday, May 12: Fitness for a Cause, in support of Waves 4 Water. All proceeds (which are just donations from guests, the event is free) will go to Waves 4 Water, a nonprofit organization that provides clean water to people living in places where a steady supply of clean water is not a given. It’s easy to forget how lucky we are in the United States, where clean water comes rushing out of our faucets with just the turn of a knob.
Hosted by Refine Mixers (an all-natural, zero-calorie cocktail mixer company), Equinox, and This Shirt Helps, Fitness for a Cause begins at 9:00 AM and goes until 1:00 PM, with yoga, Equinox trainers leading exercise classes on the beach, and some celebrity drop-bys to help keep things interesting. This Shirt Helps ambassador Sophia Bush will discuss the ethics and credo behind the company, which contributes to nonprofits via its “one shirt equals” model. For example, a purchase one shirt equals a year of clean water for one person where clean water is in scarce supply.
Yes, it starts at 9:00 AM on a Saturday, but you certainly don’t have to get there right away; this isn’t school we’re talking about, this is a fun way to spend a day at the beach and learn about a few companies with good hearts while your’e there. I’m especially interested to learn more about Refine Mixers. Cocktails are wonderful to share with friends after a day outside, but those calories can add up. No sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, and no (gross) diet tonic water as the alternative. I’ve been hoping to find an herbal sweetener that won’t ruin the taste of my margaritas and mojitos. Refine uses Stevia, which I’ve heard of but never sampled. And I’d like to think I will try the “Blockbuster Bodyweight Bootcamp” from 11:45 – 12:30, but those beach hardbodies are INTIMIDATING. Seriously; the Equinox trainers are famously motivating, but unless they promise to be gentle with me, I might end up crying on the beach, and reaching for a Refine-mixed Mojito to assuage my non-Southern California bod.
Fitness for a Cause is taking place just west of Shutters Hotel at One Pico Boulevard on the Santa Monica Beach. RSVP with this Eventbrite link.
