The Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show, coming back to Long Beach this January 14-15, has been getting a bit of online buzz. No surprise; along with Samantha Brown, there are quite a few terrific travel experts coming to share their knowledge with attendees. There is also going to be an active Culinary Stage (sounds delicious) with samples for all. A third aspect — besides the obvious exhibitors’ booths with fantastic travel deals and packages for guests of the travel trade show — will be the panels along the outskirts of the exhibitors’ area. One panel that I’m particularly psyched about is the best travel apps one, because, well…I’m the moderator.
Best Travel Apps to Plan Your Best Trip Ever is organized by the Los Angeles Consortium of Online Travel. Hello! Other panelists are truly experts in their fields, and they surely have knowledge about the travel apps they use to make their trips smoother, more interesting, or more affordable.
Brett Snyder writes the award-winning consumer air travel blog, The Cranky Flier. He was also named on of the Top Travel Specialists in 2011 by Conde Nast Traveler, for his work as president of Cranky Concierge air travel assistance. Brett’s written about air travel issues for CNTraveler.com and CNN.com, and previously worked in strategy and marketing roles for airlines including United and America West. In 2005, he created the travel search site for PriceGrabber.com, a leading comparison shopping site. He will certainly have great recommendations for the best travel apps that relate to air travel — what an expert.
Jill Robinson is a world-class freelance travel writer, having landed pieces i the San Francisco Chronicle, World Hum, Frommer’s, Lonely Planet, AOL Travel, TravelGuide to California (2011,2012), Journey, and more. She divides her times between writing about travel, running a kayak business, and trying to wring awe-inspiring adventure out of every day. Her favorite trips include tequila tasting in Mexico, kayaking in the Caribbean, and hiking Peru’s Amazon jungle. That said, she’s never taken a trip she didn’t like, and she hits the road as much as possible, iPhone in hand. She’s experimented with enough travel apps to know which ones are really useful.
Kim Lachance Shandrow is a columnist for Tecca, a very reader-friendly consumer technology site. She writes for the the Tech-Savvy Mom, Blackberry Tips, and Green your Tech there. Her articles have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, MSNBC.com, NBC.com, SuperEco.com, HealthCentral, com, ImperfectParent, com, LA CityBeat, and more. When she’s not writing health, parenting, or environmental articles, she’s a busy parent and martial arts enthusiast — so watch for her right hook! She will discuss her favorite apps that help make traveling with children go smoothly.
And me? Well, I’m the co-creator/editor of The Vacation Gals, a multiple award-winning travel blog featuring romantic getaways, family-friendly destinations, and more. I created this blog for the Los Angeles Consortium of Online Travel, which brings LA-area travel industry types together in casual environments. I’m a co-founder and member of the Best Family Travel Experts collective, and have had had pieces in Fodors.com, Today Moms (the Today Show’s family blog), and been interviewed by outlets such as Toronto’s Globe and Mail and CNN.com. I’m also a relative newcomer to the world of smartphone apps, having only this year switched from a Blackberry to an iPhone. What travel apps do I like the most? You’ll have to come to our panel to find out.
Best Travel Apps to Plan Your Best Trip Ever will be enlightening, sure, but it’ll also be a really fun panel to see. It’s Saturday, January 14, at 1:30PM, at the Long Beach Convention Center. Take some time away from all the wonders of the Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show, and see what we have to say… and tell us what your favorite travel apps are, too. We’d love to learn about them. See you there!
